This time it was a bit different. I'm an old tractor buff, and a friend of mine brought over an 8N Ford late last winter for some work. I tuned it up but it still didn't have the power I thought it should. When I checked compression it was 90/85/85/90 (4 cylinder front to back). All 4 were similar wet and dry. New specs should be around 120# per cylinder, minimum specs are around 90# per cylinder.
I considered replacing the rings and re-sleeving it, but then decided to try AutoRX instead. We changed the oil and added the appropriate amount for the 6 qt. sump. I had him run it about 10-15 hours. Then had him change the oil and run it another 10-15 hours.
Last night I stopped by his place and he said it seemed like it had more power than earlier in the season pulling his finish mower. I borrowed his compression tester and found that the compression was 105/100/100/110 (front to rear).
I pulled the valve cover off the side of the engine and it was extremely clean (I did not do this in the spring so I can't say it looked dirty then).
I told him to run it another month or so and change the oil again and we'd worry about the rings in a few years.
Needless to say I'm once again impressed with the results of AutoRX. Thanks to Frank and the AutoRX team.
I look forward to posting my results with AutoRX in my 96 Cherokee and my 300ZX-both of which are currently in the middle of an AutoRX treatment!
